Icarus is developing a hybrid photovoltaic/thermal plus storage technology to extract waste heat from PV panels in commercial and utility scale arrays, store heat energy, and convert the stored energy into power using the Organic Rankine Cycle. Icarus solar plus storage is anticipated to cost 56% less than current commercial PV plus lithium-ion battery systems. The system improves PV performance while charging the thermal battery unlike current systems that consume PV output to charge a battery.
