Summary

With support from NYSERDA the Cleantech Open Northeast team introduced programming with the NY State Pollution Prevention Institute and Clean Energy Ventures to enable our startups to calculate their Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Potential (GHG-ERP). This exercise will help them in conversations and negotiations with investors that increasingly care about environmental impact.

The 2021 Cleantech Open Northeast cohort (44 startups) estimates that when at scale they will collectively reduce 101 million metric tons of CO2e per year, the equivalent of taking 22 million cars off the road. These calculations are the result of analysis of the startups’ GHG-ERP workbooks. These are unaudited.

Thank you very much to Kim Bawden of the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (P2I) whose team ran several webinars for our startups, created a workbook and led a business clinic where we coached each startup on their calculations. Thank you also to Ted Dillon of Clean Energy Ventures who educated our startups on their Simple Emissions Reduction Calculator (SERC).
