Summary

In 2022 we emerged from the pandemic with the in-person Northeast Regional Finals in Boston and the Global Forum in San Jose as part of VERGE. The energy and excitement were incredible. This year, two Northeast startups are National Finalists: NTP Technologies and Verde Technologies. Verde is also National Grand Prize Runner-up and National People’s Choice Winner. The Northeast Regional Winners are NTP Technologies, Verde Technologies, HiT Nano, and Kasava Engineering. NTP Technologies also won our first Agriculture/Food/Land Use prize sponsored by the Sire Foundation.

The Cleantech Open Northeast team expanded this year! Carly Joos, Partnerships Manager, started in August. She’s responsible for building and strengthening relationships with colleges and universities, accelerators and incubators, and others to enable us to identify more potential startups and opportunities for our startups to pursue both during and after the accelerator. At the end of May we also welcomed Olivia LaRoche as our new Program Manager. The team is stronger than ever!

Suzanne Oakley won the Lifetime Achievement Award for her many years of dedication in accounting education and financial modeling for our startups. Lead Mentors of the Year are Jess Charlap and Tom Pavilon. Specialist Mentors of the Year are Amy PerlmutterArthur Woolverton, and Sudhir Jain. Rookie Mentors of the Year are Sara Harari and Margarett Jolly. Thank you, all!

Cleantech Open Northeast alumni exceed industry performance. 71% of the 555 Cleantech Open Northeast alumni are still active or have had a successful exit. They’ve raised $1.05+ billion, created 3,100+ clean economy jobs, and generated $486+ million in revenue. Nine of the top ten highest- funded companies are led by a woman or a minority. The 2022 Cleantech Open Northeast cohort estimated their aggregate emissions reduction potential at 78 million metric tons of CO2e (CO2 equivalent). That’s equivalent to  taking 17 million gas-powered cars off of the road annually.

Thank you to our premier sponsors MassCEC and NYSERDA who make so much of what we do possible! We are also pleased to welcome National Grid as a new Gold Sponsor, along with the Sire Foundation. All of our sponsors engaged in the program this year – as speakers, mentors, judges, and investors. Congratulations to the Cleantech Open Northeast Class of 2022!

Sustainably,

Beth Zonis, Senior Director, Cleantech Open Northeast, NECEC
